Successful application of biodegradable polymers

For the first time in Vietnam, the Institute of Industrial Chemistry (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has researched, manufactured and successfully applied biodegradable polymer materials that do not pollute the environment.

The work has been registered for intellectual property protection certificate.

This product has been put into application at Thanh Ha farm (Kim Ba and Hoa Binh districts), farm of Song Cau Tea (Thai Nguyen), Nong Truong Bong (Ninh Son district, Ninh Thuan).

The work has a great social significance , reducing the environment pollution, living environment, stimulating the growth of plants, keeping the soil moisture, increasing the organic content, nitrogen, phosphorus-potassium in the soil, increasing porosity of the soil, film processing enterprises have more jobs and agricultural labor.

A new feature of this product is to completely replace products made from common thermoplastic, after using the product to decompose into powder, not causing environmental pollution. While conventional packaging bags are not biodegradable, they cause heavy environmental pollution.

At the same time, the project has created a range of products based on thermoplastic resins and biodegradable natural polymers with satisfactory mechanical properties. This is a new product for the first time in Vietnam.

The team has marketed products in three forms. It is an agricultural covering film that can be produced on an industrial scale, with the effect of moisturizing, killing weeds, keeping heat for the soil, preventing leaching, preventing erosion for plants; packaging to wrap pots to serve seedlings; bags that cover pots of non-biodegradable seedlings now replace most seedlings and forest tree varieties.

Besides, there are also bags and goods containers which are also popular products with great demand.

Associate Professor and Doctor Mai Ngoc Chuc, Director of the Institute of Industrial Chemistry, said that this work has produced polymer-based biodegradable polymer materials between low density polyethylene resin with participatory starch. of compatible auxiliaries, photochemicals and oxidizing additives.

In addition, the product also uses cassava starch - a source of available and cheap materials in the country, to participate in the composition of composite materials in the presence of the system of decomposing aids . Especially , the use of cassava starch contributes to reducing production costs when organizing production.

Works can be applied massively, on an industrial scale. The technology for producing biodegradable polymer materials has been transferred to all plastics processing enterprises and companies throughout the country because there is not much change in equipment and technology.
