In the afternoon of January 16, Dr. Pham Si Tan - Deputy Director of the Mekong Delta Rice Institute - said that after three years of cooperation with American agronomists, the Institute has researched and successfully applied in the technology lab to transform the gene to create the breed. New rice rich in micronutrients.

The transgenic rice varieties were bred from three rice varieties IR64, MTL250 and Taipei 309. In the immediate future, the institute will deploy a field trial of about one year of this new variety in different ecological regions in the Mekong Delta region. It will then go through the scientific council of MARD and offer mass production.

According to Dr. Tran Thi Cuc Hoa - head of the Institute's biotechnology department, this new rice has high levels of micronutrients such as vitamins A, E, iron and zinc - essential micronutrients for humans; At the same time significantly increased oryzanol - has antioxidant effects, reduces blood cholesterol levels. In the laboratory, this genetically modified rice variety is resistant to pests and diseases, ensures biosecurity, is easy to grow, and can be put into commercial rice production.
