The cure for bladder cancer is effective

Scientists at the University of Tokyo have successfully studied gene analysis methods to choose the most suitable treatment for each bladder cancer patient.

This method will help avoid the use of ineffective drugs and cause unnecessary side effects for patients.

The current standard treatment for bladder cancer patients is to intervene to reduce the size of the cancer using a combination of cancer drugs and then, perform a surgical cut. remove cancer.

However, the team led by Professor Yusuke Nakamura found that the combined use of four cancer-fighting compounds, including Cisplatin, did not work for nearly 50% of patients.

Recently, the use of a combination of two active ingredients, including Gemcitabine, to treat bladder cancer has become more common but this method is only effective for about 50% of patients.

Professor Nakamura and colleagues at the University of Tokyo studied 32,000 genes in the cancer of about 20 patients and investigated how to combine the four cancer-fighting compounds that are effective for these diseases.

They found that there are 14 genes involved in the effects of these drugs. By numbering the functions of these genes, they can predict the effects of these drugs, with up to 90% accuracy.

The team of scientists also studied 12 other genes and sought to predict the effect of using two active ingredients for bladder cancer patients, with similar accuracy.
