The missing British scientist in Sapa

British botanists were missing while doing field work in Sapa (Lao Cai). Authorities are mobilizing forces to search for him.

According to BBC news, Jamie Taggart (41 years old, in Scotland) went missing from November 2 when he came to Sapa to explore the hills and mountains. Mr. Taggart is in charge of the Linn Botanic garden of Rosneath peninsula.

Taggart's father said, he knew his son was missing when he did not go home on the schedule of November 29. Taggart arrived in Vietnam from October and left backpacks and passports at a guest house in Sapa before missing.

"My child went alone, but he came to Vietnam two years ago and knew his way, so I didn't believe it was lost," said the father.

This afternoon, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hinh, Vice Chairman of Sapa District People's Committee confirmed with the PV about the above information and said that the province is mobilizing forces to search for scientists.

Major General Hoang Ngoc Thanh, Director of Lao Cai Provincial Police said, in early November, the provincial police received information that a foreign tourist came to stay at a hotel in Sapa, then the man went to Lai Chau and did not back to the hotel. The provincial police have directed the functional departments to coordinate with the People's Committee and the police of Sapa district to search for results but not yet.
