There are 7 different forms of intellect, what kind of intelligence are you?
Most people think that Harvard university students are outstanding people, inventing computers, writing novels.
Harvard University scientists have demonstrated that there are seven different forms of intelligence. Everyone excelled in a certain area and no one synthesized it all.
Most people think that Harvard university students are outstanding people, inventing computers, writing novels. But that's not all! In fact, intelligence is a much more general and complex concept than we think. For example, a person who was once considered the last person in the school could recover an old car or repair a broken television. Or many scientists who excel in mathematics or physics, but they cannot catch a ball or understand why their friend is sad and scared. Smart people manifest in many different forms.
The nature of intelligence
Intelligence comes from the connection of the brain and the activity of neurons.
What do people say about intelligence? With Einstein, intelligence is a creative ability. With Oscar Wilde, it's beauty and charm. Some people pass exams thanks to super memory. The ability to remember and use information quickly is seen as a sign of intelligence. On the other hand, neurologists think that intelligence comes from the connection of the brain and the activity of neurons.
On the other hand when defining intelligence, it depends heavily on cultural values. In modern science and technology society, scientists with ideas, initiatives, inventions make life easier to cope with harshness, pollution and poverty. Therefore, the so-called 'scientific ideas' are promoted. According to that trend, physicists, engineers and programmers are likened to extraordinary creative devices. But that was not true in the Renaissance era, where politically and brilliant people in art were valued. In tribal society, the concept of intelligence is different. Magicians are the center of society, valued by astrology and talking to the soul. Even today, magicians are still highly regarded in the African and South American communities.
Smart forms
Scientists agree that there are many forms of intelligence, but they still disagree about the nature of intelligence and whether they are related to each other.
In general, they agree that the ability to solve a problem or build a recipe requires intelligence at a different angle than writing a poem or composing a piece of music. Some people have a passion for mathematics or literature, and they spend most of their time asking abstract questions (why are we here? Why is the universe so vast? .). Could that be a form of intelligence?
The question is whether these smart forms are linked together? If you say no, you can divide it into 3 categories: smart, normal, and slow . But you may have seen a person who excelled in science and mathematics, enjoying art, and also good in sports and very psychological.
Many different theorists have discussed intelligence. For example, at the beginning of the 20th century, Charles Spearman argued to support overall intelligence. In other words, he admitted that intelligence has many different forms, but he also argues that if a person is good in one area, he or she can excel on the whole. In contrast, Robert Sternberg gave a theory of intelligence, he said, that intelligence should be divided into three categories: creativity, analysis and practice.
Howard Gardner.
One of the most interesting theories about intelligence was developed by Harvard University psychologist Howarf Gardner. In 1983, he stated the theory: 'Diverse intelligence'. Gardner disagrees with the views of theorists like Spearman and he argues that intelligence has no overall form or ability.
Gardner points out 7 different forms of intelligence. Starting with two basic types of intelligence is 'logic-math' and 'language-speech.' Besides that, he also points out other forms of intelligence.
- 'Visual-space intelligence' means the ability to visualize and make accurate spatial judgments.
- 'Music intelligence' includes musical sensitivity, musical mastery, height and timbre.
- 'Physical intelligence' , simply speaking, this is the ability to coordinate and control as well as the body's response rate. Those who have this form will excel in areas such as sports, dance or acting.
- 'Social communication intelligence' means the ability to adapt to other people's moods, emotions, temperament, and personality types. Teachers, therapists, and even salespeople need communication intelligence.
- 'Inner intelligence' basically means self-awareness or self-understanding.
Gardner theory is the norm because they think everyone is dominant in a certain area. According to Wechsler's famous hippocampus, about two-thirds of the population has an IQ of 85 to 115, and and in the remaining 1/3.
