Thousands of unusually dead squid filled the Chilean coast
The corpses lie everywhere, causing bad smell and making people worry that they will be affected by health.
According to the people of Santa Maria Island, southern Chile, squid began to drift ashore from 5 days ago. Up to now, the amount of drifting ink has reached thousands, many times more than ever, making the coast dense.

After many days, the squid began to decompose, stinking. Although the authorities try to clean up, they seem to be overloaded so the cleaning takes a long time, making people worried about their health.
According to NBC, local experts and police are assessing the severity of the situation, whether it could cause a sanitation emergency.
On January 14 (VN time), heavy machinery was brought in to clear the ink. Even so, the authorities are still criticized by the people for their slow response.

An investigation is currently underway to determine why so many ink drifted ashore this year.
According to experts, they have found early evidence that dead and drifting ashore is due to the ocean phenomenon called "rising water" - the process of cold, nutrient-rich and dense seawater from the bottom The sea floats to the surface of the water, replacing hot water.
