At a press conference on May 17, Dr. Bui Trong Tuyen, Head of the Management Board of the Small Satellite Project, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, said that by 2017, Vietnam will launch satellites. 2nd earth observation (VNREDSat - 1B).
VNREDSat - 1B satellite is derived from the group of PROBA satellites of the European Space Agency (ESA). This will be the second earth observation satellite to help monitor environmental resources, natural disasters, improve territorial management and major resources such as agriculture, sea and forest.

VNREDSat - 1B satellite is not a satellite to replace the first earth observation (VNRED Sat-1), so these two satellites will operate in parallel with each other and will support better monitoring of the earth.
Currently, the Ministry of Finance is negotiating a loan with Belgium to keep up with the schedule for the launch of VNREDSat-1B satellite.
Earlier, on May 7, 2013, at 09h06'30 '' on May 7, 2013 (Vietnam time), VNREDSat-1 satellite was taken up by VEGA rocket to orbit from launch site Kourou, at French Guyana, marking an important milestone in the VNREDSat-1 Project. The first photos were taken and transmitted to the ground by VNREDSat-1 satellite two days later, confirming that all the designed functions of VNREDSat-1 satellite were operating normally in orbit. VNREDSat-1 satellite has begun to perform its task of photographing the surface of the Earth according to the requirements of Vietnam.
VNREDSat-1 satellite has a total investment of 55.8 million Euro from preferential ODA loans of the French Government and 64.82 billion VND of counterpart funds. VNREDSat-1 satellite is the first multi-spectral optical satellite in Vietnam capable of taking photos in full-color channels (PAN) and 4 multi-spectrum channels (MS) with a corresponding resolution of 2.5 meters (PAN ) and 10 meters (MS). It can be said that, with owning and actively operating the VNREDSat-1 satellite system, Vietnam has added a valuable source of remote sensing images to serve various purposes from defense and security to distribution. socio-economic development.
