Current measuring technology system and restore the current flow data in the Da and Thao river basins.

The National Key Laboratory for River Dynamics, in collaboration with the University of California Davis, is implementing the project " Acquisition of technology for calculating heavy rains and floods for inter-national river basins under limited conditions or no measurement data ".

Technology of this project allows control of data that can be forecast in real time hydrological status before 12 hours, 36 hours, 48 hours; In the short term, it will be applied to the Da river and Thao river basin, including the basin of Chinese territory.

Normally for calculating and forecasting natural disasters, floods and storms, the supply of input data from flows, rainfall . river basins are very important but this is the difficulty of Vietnam. For the Da and Thao river basins, which are part of Chinese territory, Vietnam could not actively measure in the past and the country did not share data.

With the acquisition of the technology, scientists can restore all old data from 1900 up to now including rain and flow. New figures were also measured to calculate and give early warning.

Looking at the data, the specialized agency will calculate to give a warning to open the reservoir discharge, to ensure the safety of dams and migration to avoid damage to people and property. Previously, monitoring was done every 15 days.

In addition to presenting current warnings, the studies also analyze the forecast of changes in the big rains and floods in the future.

After experimenting in the Da and Thao river basins, Vietnamese scientists have the task of acquiring and mastering the rain-flood calculation and simulation technology for other river-related rivers in the country. limited or no measurement data.

This project has the participation of Prof. M.Levent Kavvas, Dr. Ali Ercan, Dr. Trinh Quang Toan of the University of California Davis.

Among these, Prof. M.Lentent Kavvas has experience in researching meteorological and hydrological models combined in many areas from the continent to the basin to assess the impact of hydrometeorology and construction. forecasting system of flood warning in real time.

And Dr. Ali Ercan was the one who performed the calculation technology to predict the change in sea level in terms of climate change impacts in the 21st century. This technology has been applied well along the coastal area. of Malaysia and areas of northern Sabah Sarawak on Borneo island.

Dr. Trinh Quang Toan is a Vietnamese working at California Davis University, an expert on setting up simulation calculations for WEHY-HCM system. The studies of TS Toan focused on simulating and calculating hydro-meteorological systems for different basins. He is also experienced in research and calculation using hydro-meteorological system, standardizing the Global meteorological data, digitizing physical data buffers.

The project will be completed in 2019.
