According to a recent study, most internet banking users do not use the most basic steps to protect themselves against potential risks when performing online transactions.

The research leader is Professor Mohammed AlZomai of the Institute of Information Security at the University of Technology Queensland, Australia also revealed that up to 1/5 of transactions are at high risk of attack despite the availability. The face of security measures is considered as effective as SMS password.

AlZomai further explained that the greatest risks come from users' carelessness rather than gaps from the inspection system or other technical issues. " In order to combat the increasingly complex threats from hackers for online banking services, most banks have installed special options to protect these transaction activities. The variable is to send the password for each transaction via the SMS system to the customer's mobile phone, then the customer must enter this password manually to confirm the transaction .

However, AlZomai and his colleagues pointed out that many customers cannot recognize the difference when the number of bank accounts in SMS messages does not match the number of accounts they are making transactions with. That is the most obvious sign that hackers have entered the bank's system.

In their research, AlZomai's team also developed a simulated online banking system and recommended participants as customers of this system and participated in financial transactions using the method. test method by code via SMS system.

AlZomai then proceeded to assume two hacker attacks: a change of 5 digits or more in the number of accounts in messages sent to customers, the latter option only changes 1 single digit. .

" It is worrisome that in the first option, 21% of users were trapped, while the number with the second option was 61% ." AlZomai also confirmed through this experiment it could be concluded that A large number of people using online banking services cannot recognize the risk of attacks through their transactions.

' Only about 79% of users are conscious of avoiding the risk of information theft when making online transactions. That fact also shows that we can not be assured of the security of online banking services despite the recent efforts of banks . '
