Why are water droplets shaped?

Surface tension acts on molecules on the surface of the liquid, causing droplets in the air to be spherical.

Why are water droplets shaped? The answer is due to surface tension.

Picture 1 of Why are water droplets shaped?

Water droplets with spheres are due to surface tension.

Surface tension is a characteristic of liquid. The molecules on the surface of the liquid act as a drag film trying to keep the liquid into a block by, narrowing the surface area to the maximum.

Inside the liquid, each molecule is subjected to the impact of surrounding molecules. With molecules in between, these forces are symmetrical and balanced.

However, the molecules on the surface are not subjected to external forces, but only to the side and pull force inward. The lateral forces are equal. Therefore, the total force pulls the inner surface molecules into a liquid with the smallest surface area of spherical shape.
