According to Bill Healy, deputy market manager for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, this is not a difficult requirement for hard drive manufacturers. Hitachi is selling 500 GB drives and Seagate has also started to ship 750 GB products to the desktop system since April.

On September 13, the hard drive will turn 50. Hitachi and many other manufacturers will jointly host this event at the Computer History Museum (California, USA).

The first magnetic drive is IBM's RAMAC with a weight of 1 ton and the ability to store 5 MB of data on 50 24-inch disks. Currently, people can own 1-inch drives with capacities hundreds of times larger.

" 20 years from now, customers will be able to buy 1-inch products with 1 TB capacity, " Healy said.
