12 types of cancer can be inherited in the family

A new US project has discovered the genetic level of 12 cancers, The Independent reported. This is the first time that large-scale scientists have studied the link between genes and cancer, as well as related mutations.

According to a report in Nature Communications, the authors from the Cancer Genome Atlas project of the US government used data from 4,000 cancer patients and compared the tissues and tumors. As a result, they discovered the frequent presence of germ cells mutating people from parents.

Statistics on the genetic level of 12 cancers.

  • Lung 1: Small cell lung cancer.
  • Lung 2: Lung cancer is not small cell.
  • Glioma: Glio cell cancer in the brain.
  • Glioblastoma: The more dangerous form of glioma cancer in which cells do not differentiate.

One of the authors, Dr. Li Ding from the University of Washington, said that germ cell mutations were found in tumors with "high frequency". Germ cells are truncated with 19% of ovarian cancer and 11% of stomach cancer.

She added that the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are only found in breast cancer, also appear in cases of stomach cancer and prostate cancer. "This proves that we need to carefully consider the ability of these two genes to affect other types of cancer," he said.

The research team hopes the work will help improve genetic risk testing based on genetic factors.
