Ahmadinejad Iranian President can fly into space

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he was willing to "become the first person to enter the universe" in Iran's ambitious space program to bring people into orbit by 2020.

He added that he was willing to "sacrifice himself and donate" money to Iran's space program.

The president's website posted photos of Mr. Ahmadinejad at the ceremony of Pishgam (pioneer), the monkey was put on orbit by Tehran last week.

The launch of the monkey into space is Iran's first step in bringing people to space in 2020. Also during the ceremony, Mr. Ahmadinejad announced the launch of two new satellites 'Nahid' and 'Zohreh' (meaning Kim Fine, in Farsi and Arabic, respectively.

Nahid is an observing satellite equipped with solar panels that operate on orbit at an altitude of 250-370km. Iran has put three other small satellites into orbit since 2009.

Zohreh is a communications satellite that can reach a height of 36,000km, which Iran has never tried before. Release date is not published.
