Dangerous security error in Windows Media Player
On February 14, security firm Eeye Digital Security announced a dangerous security flaw in Windows Media Player that could allow an attacker to hijack a user's computer. Eeye said that only Windows versions sold in the market
This error occurs in the Windows Media Player caching mechanism, which can interactively authorize malicious BMP image files to attack straight to the computer and appear in almost all versions. Windows Media Player ranges from 7.1 to 10 and affects all currently active Windows such as Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows NT and Windows 2000 SP4.
Eeye said that only Windows versions sold in the European market that are not available for Windows Media Player are safe from this security bug.
Microsoft said the patch for a similar security flaw was previously released, but eEye experts said that the security patch KB913446 for Windows XP did not resolve the security flaw.
