Drinking plenty of water makes smoking easier

What does a slice of cheese, a cup of water and a dish of broccoli have in common? A new study finds that eating one of these foods will lose the taste of tobacco.

What does a slice of cheese, a cup of water and a dish of broccoli have in common? A new study finds that eating one of these foods will lose the taste of tobacco.

The study also found that tobacco flavor will be enhanced after eating meat, drinking alcohol or drinks containing caffeine. Together, these findings will help create a diet for smokers to help them quit more easily.

"Smoking is not only related to nicotine addiction, it's also taste and other sensations when smoking," said study author F. Joseph McClernon at Duke University, USA. "So anything that can lose the feeling of smoking can help drug addicts quit more easily."

(Photo: Inmagine.com) McClernon and colleagues interviewed 209 men and women who smoke. These people smoke at least 10-15 cigarettes a day. Researchers ask smokers to tell which foods enhance or lose their taste. Cigarettes, sizes, brands and weights are also recorded.

On average, participants smoked about 22 cigarettes / day and got used to tobacco for more than 20 years. Nearly 47% smoke mint. More than 40% smoke slightly and nearly 40% smoke heavy.

Nearly 45% of smokers refer to foods that reduce the taste, while 70% indicate foods that increase the taste of tobacco. Fruits, vegetables, dairy products and non-caffeine drinks (such as filtered water and vitamins) are the main foods that reduce the taste of tobacco.

Participants also pointed out situations that affect the feeling of smoking, such as taking medicine, hot weather or smoking too much or too quickly. Molded or misty cigarettes also lose the taste of tobacco. Meanwhile, drinks with caffeine, alcohol and meat are considered the most potent flavor enhancer.

Researchers believe that changing diets can help addicts quit smoking."Eating dairy products, drinking plenty of water, eating fruits and vegetables will help you reduce cravings," McClernon said.
