Fossils show a great-sized creature called Leedsichthys , which lived about 160 million years ago, but was extinct at the same time as the dinosaurs.
Based on the rest of the skeleton, scientists speculate that the fish can grow to 9m within 20 years, but after 38 years, it can reach a length of 16.5m, eating whale now. .
The fish was first discovered in 1886, thanks to the work of expert Alfred Nicholson Leeds.
However, it is difficult to determine their true length because only fossilized fossils are found.
Now, researchers can sequence samples together to draw this conclusion, which can weigh up to 21.5 tons, equivalent to three African elephants combined, or two double-decker buses.
Leedsichthys can live an average of 40 years, owning a giant mouth that acts as a vacuum to pull thousands of small fish, shrimp and jellyfish into.
However, the above fish still cannot match the paddle fish, still lurking in the mysterious waters of the Earth's oceans. Adult individuals can be up to 17m long.
