Opening remarks, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano reviewed the results of IAEA activities in the past year in all areas: atomic energy application, technical cooperation, safety and security, and no nuclear proliferation; emphasizing priorities to support developing countries, using nuclear technology, supporting the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals.

Mr. Amano stressed the results of the two Ministerial Conferences held by the IAEA last year, including the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Security in July, also in Vienna and the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the century. 21 in June in the Russian city of Saint Petesbourg. These important and practical contributions of Vietnam are highly appreciated by the IAEA and the international community.

During the time of attending the General Assembly, the Vietnamese delegation had many meetings with delegations of countries and specialized agencies of the IAEA to expand and promote multilateral and bilateral cooperation in the fields. safety, security, nuclear inspection, construction of nuclear infrastructure, regulatory cooperation, technical cooperation, personnel training, scientific research and nuclear technology.

The meeting agreed to admit two new IAEA members, Brunei and Bahamas, and re-appointed Yukiya Amano as the second four-year IAEA Director General. The General Assembly will meet until the end of September 20 and will review the IAEA's programs and activities through the 2014 budget, electing members of the Board of Governors and the IAEA executive body.

On the sidelines of the Meeting, the IAEA Science Forum this year with the theme 'Green Journey' introduced the application of nuclear technology in marine environmental protection. The forum discussed the challenges posed by climate change and ocean acidification, as well as the role of nuclear engineering in sustainable development through measures to preserve the marine environment.
