Intel upgraded the Centrino platform for laptops

Rarely, the chip platform has attracted much attention outside the technology world, but this time, Intel has made an exception. The reason is that this is the company's first product to use flash memory chips, which, according to the advertisement, will bring higher speeds, longer battery life for laptops.

Superior features

"Santa Rosa" is the name chosen, and it will replace Centrino - Intel's highly successful laptop platform, which has a huge advantage in popularizing Wi-Fi wireless networks.

"Intel has put a lot of effort into saving power for laptops. The general message is that Santa Rosa offers more features, higher performance and almost no impact on battery life." analyst Nathan Brookwood of Insight 64 said.

In addition, Intel has also improved the graphics capabilities of the new chip platform, so watching videos on the laptop will become comfortable and feel the same as when watching on a wireless screen.

Finally, Intel will also support the latest version of Wi-Fi wireless technology, allowing for a maximum speed of 300Mbps, 5 times faster than the current version.

Key market

Although Intel's chip market share has been snubbing recently by AMD, in terms of tradition, its unique position in the laptop market has never declined. Centrino platforms are always upgraded once a year to stay ahead of AMD products.

In the PC market, laptops are currently the "hottest" area. Last year, if global PC sales increased by just over 7%, laptop sales jumped 26% (this rate on the desktop is only 2%).

So far, computer manufacturers have designed more than 230 models using the Santa Rosa platform, about 50 more than Centrino.
