Microsoft has released a fix for battery power consumption in Windows XP for Intel laptops running dual-core Core Duo processors. This flaw was discovered in the summer of 2005 but was kept private until February.
In the support file released by Microsoft on May 16, the company said that mobile devices with integrated Core Duo chips with USB 2.0 drivers prevented the CPU from entering "deeper ACPI hibernation" - or Also known as "C state".
The C state saves energy when the processor is not busy. These states range from "C0" to "C3" or "C4". Normally, a laptop while not working if using C3 or C4 status can save battery. If the laptop does not work and does not enter C3 or C4 status, the battery will quickly lose weight.
Windows XP SP2 fixes can be downloaded directly from the Microsoft website. Only legitimate Windows users can download this fix.
