Microsoft will officially discontinue all support for Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP 1) on October 10, 2006.

This is the latest announcement from Microsoft to remind the solution providers and users about when the company stopped providing free support with this version of the operating system.

Customers are advised to upgrade to Windows XP SP 2 version within the remaining 3 months before October 10, 2006.

Starting from that point, Microsoft will stop releasing security updates for Windows XP SP1.

In this security bulletin this month, Microsoft has advised users to prepare for this transfer. "I recommend that all users switch to Windows XP SP 2 as soon as possible," said Stephen Toulouse, Microsoft's security product manager.

According to the previous plan, Microsoft will terminate support for Windows XP SP 1 on September 17, 2006. But then the company decided to delay the deadline until October 10.

Windows XP SP1 was officially launched on July 11, 2002. The next version of Windows XP SP2 was released about 2 years later on September 17, 2004. It is expected that the next version of Windows Vista will be released early next year.

In the signing of a customer support agreement, Microsoft announced it would expand support and release security patches for business customers if it had not planned to upgrade to Windows XP SP2. As for customers, Microsoft suggests that they consider upgrading to Windows Vista early next year.

Recently, Microsoft has officially announced the end of all support for Windows 98 and Me on July 11, 2006.
