US scientists say one in six Americans struggles with weight loss and some have maintained the necessary weight loss.
Dr. Jennifer Kraschnewski of Medical College, Pennsylvania State University and colleagues analyzed data of 14,306 people (52.3% male and 47.7 female) from the National Health and Nutrition Pilot Survey section 1999-2006.
This nationwide survey assesses the health and nutrition of a representative community. The study found some remarkable points.
One-third of the population claims to lose weight with 82.6% of them being overweight and obese.
36% of people lost at least 5% in their initial intake, higher than the weight loss tests where only 10-20% of people lost 5%. Women maintain a 10% reduction in body weight for a long time.
68% of the surveyed participants have lost at least 10 pounds since 2009 mainly youth, women, non-Latin white people with the majority of high school students.
The study, published in the International Obesity Journal, also found that people with diabetes often maintained a 16.5% higher rate of weight loss than those who did not.
