Quang Ngai: Confused because of soil cracking

Mr. Ha Thanh Hong, Chief of the Quang Ngai Union of Science and Technology Associations, said that the above cracking phenomenon has never happened in Mo Duc.

This is the area along the National Highway 1A, which is the main plain of laterite soil. Particularly in the town area - where soil cracking occurs, sandy soil is found. Associate Professor Cao Dinh Trieu, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of Vietnam Geophysical Association said that in the mountainous areas of Quang Ngai, there have been many landslides related to tectonic activities. The cracking of soil in Quang Ngai is different from the previously mentioned "death holes" in some areas of Ho Chi Minh City.

If there is a "death hole" , there must be a phenomenon of leaching of fine, sandy materials and there must be penetration of underground flow. Here, think of the movement of tectonic rock to create a gap. Under the ground there are clay mounds, or salt moss (gypsum) when the rain soaked in water will cause a crack.

However, detailed research is also needed to know exactly why.

According to Hong, the Quang Ngai province is ready to bring together experts and scientists to find out the cause of this phenomenon if it is directed by the local government.
