The changes in Windows Vista are interesting but also make many people uncomfortable because of too many changes compared to the previous version. The following tips will help you find the "old man".
Restore the Run dialog in Start Menu
The Run dialog with the main function is to enable users to quickly activate applications or execute tasks via the command line. For example, if you want to quickly open the computer, just press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box, type " calc " and Enter instead of right on Start - Programs - Accessories - Calculator .
In Windows Vista, the Run dialog box is hidden. Therefore, it is really difficult when you want to manipulate the command line. To restore the Run dialog box in Start Menu, do the following:
- Right click on the space on the taskbar, select Properties .
- Select the Start Menu tab, check " Start menu entry " and click the " Customize " button on the right.
- Scroll the displayed list until you find the " Run command " section, check the check box and click OK to finish. The Run dialog box will appear in the Start menu.
You can also activate with the shortcut of the Run dialog when the keyboard has a Windows key by pressing Windows + R.
Reduce icon size on the desktop
The icons on the desktop seem to be too large for your relatively small screen. However, you don't want to adjust the resolution. Therefore, the icon size reduction method may make you satisfied:
By default, Windows Vista sets the icon size on the desktop to " Medium ". We have to click on the desktop space, select View - Classic icons .
Welcome Center key and Windows Sidebar
The two default settings displayed in Windows Vista each time are the Welcome Center and the Sidebar. To lock them, we only need to take a few steps:
- Right click on the Vista Sidebar icon located in the system tray (system tray). Select Properties from the display window.
- Uncheck the " Start sidebar when Windows starts " section. Click OK to finish locking Windows Sidebar.
With the Welcome Center, simply uncheck " Run at startup " located at the bottom of the Windows Center window.
Change the Network icon name
By default there is no rename function for the network icon on the desktop, but you want it to be called " My Network ". The only way is to "ask" the Registry.
- Please be careful to back up the registry before proceeding. Then go to Start , select Search , type: " regedit.exe ", press Enter . (No "" sign)
- Find the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesLocal SettingsSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellMuiCache
- Mouse on MuiCache. In the right pane, find the section:
@C: Windowssystem32NetworkExplorer.dll, -1
- Double click on it. In the " Value data " data entry section, type in the desired name. For example " My Network ".
- Exit the Registry and check the results.
Add clock in the system tray
Due to work, you have to keep track of the time at the same time in many parts of the world. Windows Vista may display more than one system tray clock compared to Windows XP. This is a small feature but quite useful, you only need to know the exact time zone. The Vietnamese example is (GMT +07: 00).
- Click on the clock, select Date and Time Settings .
- Click the Additional Clocks tab. Add one or two arbitrary clocks to the system tray.
- Select the appropriate time zone for the clock.
