"Vietnam can be completely assured of Russia's nuclear safety standards. The Vietnamese reactor is unlikely to occur as at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan," said Petr G. Shchedrovitsky affirmed.

"Russia's safety standards have always been more stringent than international standards. Russian-built factories all guarantee absolute safety. Proven reactor designs are more likely to be resistant. The problem may occur, " stressed Petr G. Shchedrovitsky.

Regarding nuclear technology used for Vietnam nuclear power plant, Mr. Shchedrovitsky informed, most new units build nuclear reactors based on the principle of water under pressure. This is the technology that about 80% of the world's nuclear power plant complex projects use.

The adviser said the Fukushima reactor was built 40 years ago. While Vietnam has built a modern 3 rd generation unit, it is safe. From the Fukushima event, countries also draw lessons directly related to earthquake safety standards.

Russia has received many Vietnamese students to create nuclear power. Last year was 19 people, and this year was 70 people. After training, students are able to work on nuclear power, design, manage or organize competent authorities and the ability to monitor the nuclear industry.

Vietnam's first nuclear power project is expected to be located in Ninh Thuan province, including two factories with a total capacity of 4,000 MW. According to the plan, the factory will start in 1 2014 and start generating electricity in 2020. Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant will use Russian technology. The National Assembly of Vietnam has approved the policy of investing in the construction of nuclear power plants.
