Before Lenovo urgently recalls its ThinkPad laptop battery, Sanyo Electric has defended its product. The company claims that the error is not entirely due to "the battery itself", but due to the strong external impact.

This morning, Lenovo, the world's third largest personal computer maker, voluntarily recalled 205,000 laptop battery packs worldwide. Specifically, 100,000 individual battery packs in the US and 105,000 batteries in the remaining countries. The goal is Sanyo's 9-core, long-life lithium-ion battery pack.

" Only when the computer falls from the top to the ground, and the battery is hit hardest, the probability of a fire is happening. This cannot be considered a fault of the battery pack itself ."

Sanyo said it is still calculating the cost of the recall this time, but most likely, the case will affect its quarterly business results, just like in the past Sony case.

For its part, Lenovo warns that battery packs may overheat and burn, after receiving reports of four such cases. Particularly in the past 6 months, Lenovo had to conduct emergency recall of laptop battery twice.

Lenovo claims it will support Lenovo's battery recovery campaign and the two sides are "working together" to put user safety first.
