Fossil samples showed that ginkgo relatives were extinct 2.6 million years ago. Ginkgo biloba is widely grown in the Far East, can live up to 2,000 years and as high as 30m.

Russian scientists have just regenerated a flower whose scientific name is Silene stenophylla from seeds buried under ice in Siberia from 30,000 years ago.

Previous Silene stenophylla, the oldest tree regenerated in the date palm family with seeds dating back 2,000 years in Masada, Israel.

Wollemi Pine, a plant belonging to the canopy family is said to be extinct. Until recently, this plant was found only 100 miles northwest of Sydney (Australia). Fossils show that this plant can be dated to 200 million years.

Last year, the rare plant Zanthoxylum heterophyllum in Mauritius island was successfully bred. This species is in danger of extinction due to the destruction of its habitat. It is estimated that there are only about 50 trees in the world.
