Small stomach easy to drink

A small stomach will make you more susceptible to getting drunk. In other words, those who perform gastrectomy surgery to reduce obesity will get drunk faster. This is a new discovery by US researchers.

A new US study published on Thursday concluded that people who had a gastric bypass surgery when drinking alcohol would get drunk faster and take longer to quit.

This study was done by Stanford University researchers, and they found that this relatively common surgical method helped reduce obesity, but increased the influence of alcoholic beverages.

John Morton, professor of surgery at Stanford University, said the study was suggested by the direct exchange program Oprah Winfrey, USA.

Morton appeared at the Winfrey program last year to discuss the impact of this surgical method, and listened to a lot of alcoholist concerns. He said: 'I have heard many things like the type of patient who drank a glass of wine and was immediately caught by driving in drunken state, but I wanted to know clearly whether there was any difference before and after surgery or not. '

To test the level of alcohol impact, the researchers selected 19 people who performed gastrectomy, and 17 who had not yet performed this type of surgery. Then invite them to drink a glass of red wine with about 155 g. Everyone drinks that wine in 15 minutes.

Then each of the subjects will be tested for alcohol content in their breath every 5 minutes until the alcohol level returns to zero. Those who have performed gastrectomy have a high concentration of alcohol in their breath. the most is 0.08% compared to the remaining group is 0.05%.

In the US, blood alcohol concentration when driving from 0.08% or more will be considered illegal.

Those who performed the surgery earlier also took longer to clear the alcohol, an average of 108 minutes compared to 72 minutes with the other group.

The result of this study is that the gastrectomy surgery to shrink its size will alter the absorption of alcohol into the body, which will be announced at the annual meeting of the American Society for Slimming Surgery. (American Society for Bariatric Surgery).

Approximately 150,000 Americans perform gastrectomy every year, as this is an easy method for people with obesity, exceeding 50 kg or more compared to normal weight.
