After a period of use, the hard disk's data retrieval rate will gradually decrease and one of the main reasons is that this situation is due to fragmentation of hard disk files.
At such times, instead of using the built-in defragmenter, which is very slow for Windows, explore the smart disk defragmentation feature of the Ashampoo Magic Defrag (AMD) program.
AMD will work in the background and automatically defragment when needed to keep the hard disk stable. The unique thing is that AMD only defragments the hard disk every time the system is in idle state (when you don't use the mouse, keyboard) and most importantly it doesn't hinder the speed of making Jobs of other applications. The latest version of AMD v1.06 is 3.47 MB, compatible with Windows 2000 / XP / 2003, requiring the system to have a minimum of 64 MB of RAM. You can download a 30-day trial at http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Ashampoo_Magic_Defrag/magicdefrag.html
After the installation process completes and starts the program for the first time, the AMD icon will appear on the system clock tray. From the main AMD interface, click the Options> Settings menu to set some important parameters. In the window that appears, in the Drive Letter box, select the drives that want to be defragmented. Below, the item Don't run while in Battery Mode will be marked by default, which means the program will not work every time your laptop is charging. Note, when you want to uninstall AMD from the computer, you must turn off the program's background service by clicking on the Stop Service tab (because it is not possible to remove AMD in the usual way). After setup is complete, click OK to make the change take effect.
On the AMD main interface, you will see the parameters with the corresponding meanings as follows:
- Processed Files Print Pass: indicates the total number of files that the program has processed.
- De-fragmented Files: indicates the total number of fragmented files that have been reorganized by the program.
- Moved Files: shows the total number of files that the program has moved to the most optimal position.
- Last Files: indicates the location of the last file that the program processes before temporarily suspending operations.
