The security firm warned of an increase in the number of newly announced statistics that the amount of spam appears completely. This statistic is more accurate than the statistics in the summer months, because during this time the number of legitimate emails has decreased significantly, so the amount of spam increased.
In early October, spam set a record when it reached 96% of all emails sent during that time. This reinforces the forecast that spam will surpass the results of the previous two months to establish a new record in October.
' Usually the amount of spam increased in summer because in this season the number of legitimate email transactions decreased because everyone went on vacation ,' said Diego d'Ambra, SoftScan's technical director. ' But in last October, the level of legitimate email is still in the middle of it, so we can confirm that the amount of spam increased is the amount of new spam. This month, the number of spam has increased by 4% '.
Meanwhile, the virus threat has fallen to a relatively low level. The number of email accounts for viruses accounts for only 0.41% of SoftScan scanned emails. But phishing phishing is still the most widespread spreading threat on the Internet.
Secure Computer security statistics show that the amount of spam transferred to images instead of text to bypass filtering tools in the past month has increased by more than 200%. The amount of spam of this type now accounts for 30% of the total spam.
' Types of spam using images will be a problem because they are difficult to detect using only traditional filtering tools. This type of spam is usually higher capacity and takes up more bandwidth , 'said Michael Osterman, an expert at Osterman Research.
The reason is that traditional spam filtering tools often filter spam based on certain keywords. Therefore, the spammer decided instead of entering the text into the spam email they put those documents into a photo and then inserted the image into the spam email. With this trick, traditional filtering tools will not be able to detect them even when using optical character recognition technology.
