Sun Microsystems has just released a test version of Java Enterprise Edition 5 (JEE5), which gives developers a new programming model and tools to help build Java applications faster and easier.

Java EE 5 will add support for a range of new technologies, simplifying the process of creating Web application interfaces and improving Web services. Java EE 5 also has the necessary code to build the application.

To support the new JEE5 platform, Sun Microsystems has been offering a range of support tools, such as NetBeans 5.5 Enterprise Pack Preview - a software package that integrates the Unified Modeling Language (UML) tool and tool set Virtual design for service-oriented developers (SOA).

Also this week, Sun announced the Java System Application Server PE 9.0 test, built on the technology of the Java EE 5 open source GlassFish application server project.

Expected this summer, Sun will complete Java EE 5. Also last week, Sun released a beta version of the Java Platform Standard Edition (codename "Mustang").
