This is the new trash can design that New York City has just chosen to use in the future

New York City has more than 23,000 trash bins, you can see them all around the street. That's one of the consequences of network-based urban planning made more than 200 years ago: unlike other cities (with Chicago being a clear example), New York doesn't have these. narrow lane for residents to concentrate waste waiting for disposal. This means that New Yorkers will have to live with the everyday waste, and the City Department of Sanitation must carefully research the bin design appropriate to the context, from appearance, to how they can be lifted and dumped all the garbage inside into specialized garbage trucks.

But last week, the city announced a new trash can designed by a group of New York designers called Group Project - which is also the winning work in a trash design competition that the city has. held 15 months ago.

It can be seen that, unlike the 1-part design as before, New York's new trash design consists of 2 parts. The outer shell is a wire mesh similar to the current trash type. But the outer shell is only a 180-degree semicircular part, used to hold and protect the second part inside. When you flip the lid of the outer shell, you'll see a plastic trash basket, which is where the garbage is stored. This trash basket has rounded corners, making cleaning easier to handle, and 50% lighter than the previous steel design. When this plastic basket is old, it can be recycled.

Finally, 12 samples were selected for the final round, from which they continued to select 2 samples for street testing in 90 days (the test took place earlier this year).
