General antivirus software when installing will penetrate deeply into the system to protect users' computers from within. Because of this, the Add or Remove Programs utility cannot remove all files left in the system.

For that reason, most manufacturers have released a tool specifically to perform their application uninstallation. This tool is usually posted on the manufacturer's website and provided to users for download for free. In the event that the software vendor does not offer this tool, you can use another reliable professional utility from third parties.

To remove McAfee, first uninstall the software by using the Add or Remove Programs utility, like removing other application settings. Next, visit McAfee's official website, download the uninstall tool for McAfee product called MCPR.exe or download it.

After downloading the MCPR.exe file, double-click the file to run this tool.

Note: If you use Windows Vista, right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as administrator. The MCPR.exe tool does not work on Windows 95, 98, and Windows ME.
