Dr. Cheryl Bushnell and colleagues at Durham University (North Carolina State) were interested in the case of 34,000 women with migraine during pregnancy. They noted that these women were 19 times more likely to have a stroke and five times more heart attack than women without migraine.

According to Dr. Bushnell, there is an association between migraine headaches and pre-eclampsia as a pregnancy poisoning, which causes 10% of maternal deaths. High blood pressure and the presence of protein in the urine of pregnant women can lead to pre-eclampsia, which can sometimes cause seizures.

Mr. Bushnell also noted that pregnant women aged 35 and over are at high risk of migraine. He recommends that all expectant mothers should go for antenatal care, especially regular checkups of various cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol levels, diabetes .
