In the morning of January 11, 2006, in Hanoi, Japan Trade Promotion Organization (JETRO) and Center for Information Technology (IT) Examination and Training Support (VITEC), belonging to Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park held a ceremony to award IT engineer certificates. In this phase, there are 200 Japanese qualified IT engineers who are certified.

According to VITEC and JETRO, Japanese IT engineers and equivalent examinations have been held in Vietnam since 2001. After 4 years of implementation, nearly 3,000 candidates have taken the test, including 385 standard birth. The qualified candidates are given priority by the Japanese government to reduce the conditions for granting work visas in Japan, and to be recruited by Vietnamese IT enterprises.

2005 was the second year in a row that the exams in Vietnam attracted an increasing number of candidates. In 2005, there was also the IT Examination Council (ITPEC) composed of representatives from 7 Asian countries. With the coordination of ITPEC, since 2006, IT examinations in Vietnam will be held simultaneously on the same day, the same exam, in parallel with Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand. These examinations are fully recognized as equivalent to the examination held in Japan.
