Virus infection, environmental pollution, unhealthy living habits are the main causes of weak lungs. The lungs have an amazing ability to repair themselves, but that doesn't mean we don't need to actively protect it.

Here are 8 natural ways to help you detox your lungs:

1. Drink a drink that has the ability to clean the lungs

It takes 2 weeks to 3 months to improve lung health. The following beverages can help reduce mucus and detoxify the lungs: 

- Honey and warm water

– Lemonade

- Tea

- Carrot juice

– Turmeric and ginger

– Drinks from bananas, spinach and berries

2. Salt therapy

Salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, is often used as an alternative treatment for lung problems such as asthma, bronchitis, and cough. Simply put, you will be breathing in an atmosphere of small salt particles. You can visit a salt cave or buy a Himalayan salt lamp for home use.

3. Take a warm bath

To make breathing easier, you can use a cool mist humidifier or soak in a warm bath. You should only take a bath 2 to 3 times a week to avoid skin problems. In addition, the bath water should have a comfortable temperature of 32°C – 40°C.

4. Use oregano oil

Oregano oil is a natural decongestant. To use, make a 50-50 mixture of oregano and almond oil. Then, you put 1-2 drops under the tongue, keep for 3-5 minutes, rinse your mouth with water. You need to do it 3 times a day for 1-4 weeks to see noticeable results.

5. Avoid certain foods

If you want to be good for your lungs, you should eat foods that have the ability to detoxify and fight inflammation such as spicy foods, radishes, herbs. You should avoid foods that increase mucus in the lungs such as dairy products (cheese, butter, yogurt, kefir, milk drinks), processed foods (canned meat).

6. Clean the tongue

To protect your lungs, you need to maintain good oral health first. We know how to brush our teeth properly but often forget about our tongue. To avoid bacteria buildup, clean your tongue by:

- Use a tongue scraper.

Use a toothbrush with a back to scrape your tongue.

Use salt: put a little salt on the surface of the tongue, use a soft brush to brush the surface of the tongue for about 1 minute, rinse your mouth with clean water.

Use honey: mix 1-2 teaspoons of honey with a glass of warm water. Use that solution to gargle, rinse with clean water. 

- Use baking soda: put a little baking soda on the toothbrush, gently brush on the surface of the tongue for about 1 minute, rinse your mouth with clean water.

7. Do pursed-lip breathing exercise

This exercise will help you release trapped air in your lungs, improve ventilation, and create a feeling of relaxation. How to do this:

– Relax your neck and shoulder muscles.

- Inhale slowly through the nose. Count 1, 2 in your head. Do not open your mouth.  

Close your lips and exhale slowly. While breathing, count to 4. 

Practice this technique 4-5 times a day.

8. Exercise to clear mucus in the lungs

This exercise will help you clear the mucus in your lungs. Proceed as follows:

Lie on your back, bend your right leg up, and turn your body so that the whole body is on the right side. 

– Rotate your body on the floor in a prone position.

– Bring your left hand up to shoulder level, bend your arm.

Turn your head to the right, lie comfortably, no pain. 

Hold the pose for 30 seconds to a minute.

– Repeat this exercise for the other side.
