Adobe Systems has released updates to fix two security flaws in its popular PDF format software.
According to the developer, these security flaws not only affect versions of Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader running on the Windows operating system, but also versions running on the Apple Mac OS platform. If these security flaws are not fixed soon, users will have to face the risk of becoming victims of attacks.
The most dangerous security bug fixed by Adobe this time is a "buffer overflow" error on Adobe Acrobat versions 6.0.4 or earlier for both Windows and Mac OS. The developer has classified this security error as extremely dangerous and recommends that users should upgrade to version 6.0.5 soon.
A malicious attacker could exploit the aforementioned "night memory" security flaw by creating a malicious PDF file. If the user opens the file, an attacker will be able to take over the control of their system or the Acrobat application will stop working.
Buffer overflow error is the most commonly exploited security error. These errors arise when an application program allows data to be overwritten on the last partition of the cache. A computer system can be manipulated to execute malicious code by adding more data streams to the cache causing a memory overflow.
The remaining security flaw fixed this time affects versions of Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat from 6.0.4 or earlier running on the Mac OS platform. Application and file access permissions of the application may allow a user account without advanced access to change the application's important files.
" This security error poses risks to shared or multi-user systems ," Adobe said. " On such systems, an malicious user can take advantage of this security error to replace program files with malicious code files that can read, write or destroy sensitive information. of others ".
Adobe recommends that users should quickly upgrade to version 6.0.5.
