According to planefinder.net, the Boeing 737 is in distress with a 5-year lifespan , registration number A6-FDN. It was delivered to FlyDubai in January 2011.

According to Russian news agency RT, FlyDubai's flight carries the FZ981 number on its way from Dubai to Russia in Rostov-on-Don city while trying to land. The incident happened at 3:50 this morning.
The Russian Investigation Commission confirmed that all 62 people on the plane in the south of the country were killed, including 55 passengers and 7 crew members. Flydubai also announced the nationality of the passengers, including 44 Russians, 8 Ukrainians, two Indians and one Uzbek.
Representative of the Russian Investigation Commission announced that the agency decided to open a criminal investigation into the plane crash in Rostov-on-Don. According to the Russian Emergency Ministry, there are 11 foreigners, including flight crew members, on FZ981 flight.
A video posted on YouTube, claimed to be taken from the camera and returned to the moment the plane exploded when landing. However, its authenticity has not been verified.

FlyDubai said it knew about the incident of FZ981. "We are investigating further details and will update once more information becomes available," the company said on Facebook. Boeing airline is also gathering more details.
FlyDubai is a Dubai-based low-cost airline, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which has been operating since 2009. It operates flights to more than 90 destinations.
