American supercomputer research center is hacked

In a message to 4,200 employees at Oak Ridge Research, a unit under the US Energy Administration, the director of the research center said, "This attack is believed to be a part. in many consecutive efforts to gain access to computer networks of many US research centers and technology institutes ".

Oak Ridge officials did not specify which other institutes had suffered the attack. But they said hackers could have infiltrated the database of names, social security numbers and birth dates of visitors to the research center between 1990 and 2004.

The research center currently owns the Cray XT3 / XT4 system (also known as Jaguar), the world's second largest supercomputer with a capacity of 101.7-teraflop, an open research project on supercomputers. . Now Oak Ridge is planning to deploy another supercomputer.
