Apple acquired chip designer PA Semi

Apple is currently planning to acquire design vendor and manufacturer PA Semi with a merger contract worth about $ 278 million.

PA was founded and operated by Dan Dobberpuhl - head of design team so chip DEC Alpha and StrongARM. By the late 1990s Intel had agreed to buy both of these chip designs to resolve the legal dispute between the carrier and DEC, renaming and developing into a XScale chip platform.

Currently, PA Semi continues to research and develop the energy saving chip platform based on IBM PowerPC architecture platform. Previously, Apple also cooperated and applied PowerPC chips on Power Mac and PowerBook models. The Apple iPhone smartphone itself is also equipped with ARM chip platform.

An Apple spokesman has officially confirmed the information about pursuing the acquisition of PA but declined to comment further on the merger plan.

' I think this contract is a sign that Apple has taken into account a new line of products using its own operating system platform ,' said Ezra Gottheil, an analyst with Technology Business Research. . ' Holding a chip design firm in hand will help Apple keep the absolute secret of the product it plans to develop .'

Some other analysts believe that the reason Apple wants to buy PA Semi is because it wants to design processor chips specifically for its mobile devices like the iPhone or iPod and affirms its determination to not want to transfer to Intel's technology platform application.

Also at the hands of a chip maker, Apple will be able to freely add what it needs into the chip to enhance the capabilities of the devices that will launch in the future. this company.
