Apple fixes Wi-Fi for Mac OS X

On November 28, Apple Computer released a security update to patch 31 Mac OS X security bugs, including Wi-Fi zero-day errors.

Security Update 2006-007 not only aims to fix security flaws in the source code of Mac OS X but also fixes a series of other bugs in other third-party software that comes with operating systems like Perl, PHP and OpenSSL.

Apple warns that some of the security bugs fixed by the company this time could be taken advantage of to take over the entire control of the faulty system.

However, Apple's update did not mention the new security flaws discovered in Mac OS X by the March Security Project of the independent security researcher HD Moore. Among the security flaws discovered in this batch, an error was classified as "extremely dangerous".

" Apple has not patched any security flaws that have been published by the project last month except for Wi-Fi security flaws, " HD Moore said. " Mac OS X users still face potential risks ."

Apple said the Wi-Fi security flaw relates to the Wi-Fi device driver software AirPort built into the Mac line. By sending malicious packets, hackers can completely take control of the system that makes a mistake.

Other security flaws open the Mac OS X operating system to an attacker who hijackes the system if the user has access to malicious websites that contain code that exploits the error.

Security Update 2006-007 also fixes 4 other security errors in Mac OS X Security Framework.

Users can now download Security Update 2006-007 for the Mac OS X server or client system via the Software Update application of the operating system.
