This is the sixth launch of Ariane 5 rocket this year and is Ariane 5's 55th launch from Kourou, although the launch has been delayed by 24 hours due to the weather.
Koreasat 6 satellite weighs 2.85 tons and Hispasat 1E weighs 5.32 tons and will be placed in a geostationary orbit on a height of 36,000km.
Koreasat 6, built by Thales Alenia Space, has been in operation for at least 15 years, designed to provide telecommunications and wireless transmissions to South Korea and neighboring countries. Meanwhile, Hispasat 1E, built by Space Systems / Loral of America, will increase the capacity of Spain's Hispasat to provide a variety of data and television services for the US, Europe and North Africa.
Arianespace director said that this is the 41st successive launch of Ariane 5. In 2010, Arianespace launched 12 satellites out of 20 satellites launched worldwide.
The next launch of Arianespace is scheduled for February 15 next year, bringing Europe's second automatic transporter (ATV), carrying supplies to the International Space Station (ISS).
Arianespace was founded in 1980, currently has 24 shareholders from 10 European countries.
