Chinese search giant Baidu will work with Intel in the country to develop Internet applications for desktops, mobile phones and various electronic devices.

The contract with Intel will help search service Baidu to extend its cannons out of the PC district to land on mobile phones and consumer electronics.

Baidu said the two sides signed a memorandum, whereby Baidu will optimize search applications for Intel products. Intel is currently a provider of server platforms for Baidu.

Not only limited to computers, users will soon be able to access this number one Chinese search service from their mobile phones, PDAs and networked consumer electronics.

Despite the fierce competition from global search giants such as Google and Yahoo, Baidu, a Chinese-language search service has been growing steadily over time. There was even a time when Baidu overtook Google in terms of popularity and usage in China thanks to the services and search features that are relevant to the local peoples' psychology.

In this partnership with Intel, it can be said that both parties will collect great benefits. While Baidu's status and prestige has been enhanced, Intel's campaign to bring digital tradition into every home has an important boost.

" Baidu is the most frequently used search engine in China and has an extremely large user base. Huge traffic requires a very stable and high performance server platform. "said Thomas Kilroy, Intel vice president.

At the same time, in Taiwan, Intel is also working with electronics firms in a campaign to produce low-cost, standard-form notebooks.
