Security experts on Oct. 17 warned that they discovered the code that exploited the vulnerability in the Nvidia graphics driver for the Linux operating system, which could allow remote attackers to take control of the system.

The core of this exploit code is to trigger a buffer overflow attack and then take control of the system. According to security vendor Rapid7, the vulnerability was found in Nvidia's Binary Graphics driver for Linux 8774 and 8742 versions, and may also affect Linux drivers for FreeBSD and Solaris operating systems.

Rapid7, the company discovered the flaw, said the legacy Linux driver may crash before a buffer overflow attack after users visit a dangerous website that already has the exploit code installed. An attacker can run binary code on the system and write binary data into any region in memory.

Nvidia's representative on October 17 said the company is rapidly developing a fix for the flaw, expected to be completed within a few days.
