Experts know the age of fish thanks to the growth ring located in the inner ear, shark age thanks to the ring on the spine, oyster age based on the ring in the shell, but long time lobster age is still a mystery.

However, identifying rather than guessing the age of lobster and other crustaceans helps the scientific community better understand their community, thereby assisting authorities in managing this profitable industry, according to AP quoted Raouf Kilada of New Brunswick University (USA).

Previously, scientists deduced lobster age based on size and other variables. But now, they learn that crustaceans generally grow one round a year at a difficult point in the body.

The team found the growth ring in the eye stalk, connecting the eyeball with the body of lobster, crab, and shrimp. In lobsters and crabs, growth rings are also found in the crushed portion of the stomach, according to reports on the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.
