A treasure hunter in Estonia recently unearthed numerous valuable artifacts dating back 1,700 years, most notably a fine gold necklace.
According to the Daily Star, this solid gold snake necklace dates back to the 3rd century. Treasure hunter Jegor Klimov said the gold necklace weighs 200g, found underground on the island of Saaremaa in the Baltic Sea.
The necklace is made of solid gold.
Using only metal detectors, Klimov has found a treasure of 70 valuable artifacts dating back 1,700 years, including amber hair brooches. The rest is made up of gold and silver.
Archaeologist Marika Mägi said this was the most valuable discovery in Estonia.
According to Klimov, a group of archaeologists dug up the area but failed. But Klimov is more fortunate.
'I see quite weak signals from metal detectors. I believed in my intuition and immediately dug up , ' Klimov said.
Archaeologist Marika Mägi said this was the most valuable discovery in Estonia, with many important meanings. The most valuable thing of course is a gold necklace.
Klimov is very happy with what he digs.
The discovery reveals a connection between the Estonian island and Scandinavia . 'This is an old necklace, dating back 1,700 years , ' Klimov said . 'There are 60 necklaces of this type found in Scandinavia, but the only one to date in Estonia.'
According to experts, this necklace belongs to a noble family . 'I think this is the most valuable thing because it was made of pure gold, very precious at the time,' Klimov said.
