The US Geological Bureau said the earthquake has a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter is about 75 km southeast of Kendari city on Sulawesi island and is located at a depth of 9 km.

Some people on Sulawesi told the AP that they felt the ground shook strongly. Many houses were destroyed, but officials have not received reports of physical damage and the number of people injured.

The most recent earthquake in Indonesia occurred on April 4. The epicenter is about 318 km south of the Indonesian island of Indonesia and lies at a depth of 24 km from the seabed.The US Geological Survey and the Australian Geographic Agency report an earthquake of 6.7 Richter magnitude.
