Plesiosaurus is a strange animal with a disproportionate neck, a pudgy body that can stretch 2.5m long and fins with joints similar to bird wings. The marine reptile animals on this Jurassic are similar to the Loch Ness lake monster called Nessie.

Plesiosaurus dinosaur painting (Photo: nouvelobs) Amateur palaeontologist Nigel Armstrong made a special discovery in the famous ' Dinosaur Coast ' area, a fossilized rich mine in Yorkshire, the region North England. He has found the skeleton of a 70-year-old Plesiosaurus dinosaur so far unknown.

This finding is consistent with a period of about 30 million years - between the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods - creating a gap in the inventory of fossils. Therefore this newly discovered skeleton can be considered a ' missing link '.

This prolonged period made the newly discovered reptile completely new to science and needed to be given a new name, possibly ' Armstrong '. Armstrong discovered it after finding the fossil spine in a cliff.

The skeleton of this animal will be on display at Scarborough in England from July 26.
