Intel has just announced a cancellation of its plan to launch the 975X chipset in the second quarter of 2007, aimed at leaving the high-end chipset market available to other vendors.

According to the previous plan, Intel will announce the 975X chipset upgrade in the first half of 2007 to replace the 965X series (newly introduced this month).

However, according to Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers' sources, the plan has been canceled to create opportunities to attract other vendors to develop their own dual graphics technology, such as SLI's technology. Nvidia, or ATI Technologies' CrossFire .

Intel hopes Nvidia and ATI will develop chipset solutions that support Intel platforms and reduce the interest of these vendors in the AMD platform.

In addition, although Intel has reached a license agreement with ATI to enable the 955X and 975X chipsets to support dual CrossFire graphics technology, this license is not granted to other chipset series. Meanwhile, SLI technology has not been officially announced to support any Intel chipset.

Along with the plan to launch Intel's Conroe processor, ATI will also introduce a PCI Express X16 chipset compatible with CrossFire technology (RD600).

Nvidia's nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition platform will be available in the near future with Intel's upcoming Conroe processor support.

In the fourth quarter of this year, Nvidia will launch an upgraded version of C51XE (northern hemisphere chip C55) with the ability to support 1333MHz FSB and DDR2-800 memory.
