Microsoft 'succumbs' to the EU

After 3 years

After three years of " resilience " against the EU, Microsoft finally endured and was forced to comply with the sanctions resolution introduced by the EU court in 2004.

On October 22, Microsoft announced it would not continue its efforts to appeal the EU decision. And so the amount of fines Microsoft must pay has reached a record number: nearly $ 900 million. Of this amount, about 500 million USD was fined in 2004 and 400.6 million USD was fine in 2006. In addition, the EU once threatened to continue to be more aggressive if Microsoft did not comply with its resolution.

" It is a consumer win ," said Neelie Kroes, EU Commissioner, excitedly speaking to the press. According to her, this will be a good precedent for software industry before they intend to monopolize production and business.

However, Neelie Kroes also left open the possibility that Microsoft could be punished further if there was evidence that the company had not complied with the EU resolution since 2006.
