MSN Messenger also has a webcam error

Security firm Secunia said it found a new, extremely dangerous security bug in Microsoft's MSN Messenger instant messaging application.

The new bug found in MSN Messenger is almost similar to the bug that was previously detected in Yahoo Messenger. The two errors stem from the webcam feature and are exploited by hackers by tricking the user into clicking on an invitation to see if the malicious webcam has infected the exploit code.

Secunia said the error in MSN Messenger originated in the process of processing live video images. Hackers can take full advantage of this process to fill malicious code into the user's PC. However, hackers must deceive users to click on their webcam invitation before they can perform malicious attacks or insert data.

In essence, this is a buffer overflow that affects all previous MSN Messenger versions of version 7.x. There are currently no patches released, while the exploit code has been widely published by hackers on the Internet.

Users are advised to quickly upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 version as soon as possible to limit the risk of attack.

Security firm Secunia classified this error as 'extremely dangerous'.
